Akúa Bamboo class is a Colombian venture that blends innovation, craftsmanship, and sustainability through the creation of handcrafted bamboo bicycles. Founded in 2015 by designer Julian Marin, the project began with a personal quest to build a unique fixed-gear bike using natural materials such as bamboo, fiberglass, and caña flecha. In 2016, the brand gained international recognition when it was relaunched at Milan Design Week, introducing high-tech materials like carbon fiber and Kevlar to its designs.
As part of the team as Creative Director, I contributed to the brand’s evolution by addressing design challenges, developing cohesive strategies across product and branding, and leading the structuring of key deliverables. I worked closely with designers and engineers to refine product features and usability, ensuring a balance between innovation and practicality. Additionally, I collaborated on branding strategies and assisted in organizing key deliverables, including preparations for the brand’s successful launch, which helped strengthen Akúa’s identity as a forward-thinking brand in sustainable transportation.
